The Department of Biotechnology was established on June 2, 2018, by order No. 60-KA of the Rector of the Samarkand Institute of Veterinary Medicine under the Faculty of Biotechnology and Processing of Livestock Products.

The department provides lectures, laboratory work, and practical training in disciplines such as cytology, histology and embryology, plant physiology and biochemistry, agrobiotechnology and microbiology, biotechnological processes, equipment and automation in biotechnology, biosafety in biotechnology, microbiology, nanobiotechnology, livestock biotechnology, industrial microbiology and biotechnology, cell and gene engineering, food biotechnology, GMOs, and DNA diagnostics.
Since its establishment, the department was headed by PhD B.M. Eshonkulov until October 2019. Currently, the head of the department is Associate Professor N.J. Khodjaeva.

Additionally, cooperation agreements have been signed with the Kazakh National Agrarian Research University (KazNARU) and the South Kazakhstan University named after Mukhtar Auezov. Within these agreements, students receive training from professors of leading foreign universities who apply modern pedagogical technologies in lectures, practical classes, and laboratory training.
